Eckerd Community Alternatives will distribute 550 new bicycles and helmets to children in foster care throughout the Tampa Bay area this weekend.
Eckerd partnered with onbikes, a Tampa-based non-profit organization that raises money toward the purchase of bicycles and helmets for foster children through their annual Winter Wonder Ride. The mission of onbikes is to restore the self-confidence, health and overall well-being of at-risk children in the community by providing these children with bicycles. On December 12 more than 1,600 bike riders participated in the 5th annual Winter Wonder Ride to assist in raising this money toward the purchase of the bicycles and helmets.
On Saturday, December 19, Eckerd will be distributing the donated bicycles to foster families at their three different Tampa Bay area locations. Largo and Trinity locations in addition to bicycles and helmets will also be distributing frozen turkey dinner baskets with goodies. In partnership with Outspokin Bicycles and Kevin Bupp, founder of the 72 hours to Key West charity bike ride, more than 200 holiday turkey baskets will be distributed to foster families, as well as veterans at the Largo bike distribution event.

onbikes is a non-profit organization founded in 2011 when a group of friends organized a community bike ride during the winter holiday season to raise funds so at-risk kids could receive their very first bike. The mission of onbikes is to restore the self-confidence, health and overall well-being of at-risk children in the community by providing these children with bicycles. They strive to make onbikes a lifestyle, not just an organization. It is their hope that each life they touch picks up their “giving is better than receiving” philosophy, and they are committed to serving the community around them. onbikes will positively impact the children, families, and communities in which they live.
