The phrase “spring cleaning” took on new meaning for Project Bridge participants during a recent visit to the Children’s Home Network.
On a Friday morning, teens hailing from Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota and DeSoto counties worked alongside the nonprofit’s employees to clean and organize one of their main storage facilities.
The day was an exercise in empathy and communication.
“Our youth truly had a good response to it,” said Project Bridge Transition Coordinator Amanda Jacobson.
According to Jacobson, a partnership between Project Bridge and the Children’s Home Network is a natural fit, as both organizations are focused on helping children and teens during major life transitions.
“It was just a really nice way to teach our youth that they’re not alone,” added Jacobson. “We were able to teach them about an organization they might not have been familiar with, and to show them they’re not the only ones in transition.”
Jacobson worked with colleague Hope Cross, career service coordinator, to make the day a success.
After a morning of hard work, the group grilled lunch together and enjoyed a barbecue.
