From Foster to Famous: Dan O’Brien

Dan O’Brien made history when he won the 1996 Olympic Gold Medal for the decathlon.  His victory marked the first time an American had won in 20 years.

Before he could win the gold though, he had his own set of obstacles to overcome.

O’Brien spent the first years of his life in foster care, and was adopted at the age of two.

“My success on the track has taught me the lessons needed to be successful in life,” the former Olympian wrote on his website.

Today, O’Brien is a coach and motivational speaker who brings his story to the employees and leaders of some of the biggest companies in the world.
