EYA Launches Annual Fund Drive
$600,000 goal announced for the Jack and Ruth Eckerd Children’s Fund

Jack and Ruth Eckerd,
Eckerd Youth Alternatives’ Founders
When Jack and Ruth Eckerd founded Eckerd Youth Alternatives (EYA) in 1968, their vision was for every child to have the opportunity to succeed. That inspiring vision is the heart of EYA’s annual fund drive for the Jack and Ruth Eckerd Children’s Fund. The unrestricted support of friends, alumni, parents, and staff generates critical funds that assist EYA to help even more kids: academic and student enrichment, facility renovation, staff development and training, and much, much more.

Eckerd Youth Alternatives’ operating budget is approximately $150 million.
Without a doubt, that is a big figure, but consider this:
  • Eckerd Youth Alternatives serves some 12,000 youth annually.
  • It operates more than 40 programs in nine states — several serving youth
around-the-clock each day of the year.
  • It has about 1,400 people in its employ, from youth counselors to administrators
    to food service staff.
  • Economic conditions force State agencies to continue to cut child welfare and
    juvenile justice budgets.
  • EYA’s endowment covers only a small portion of the annual expenditures associated
with operating some of the best programs for youth in the nation.
Did You Know?
  • We are nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation and Praesidium as well as by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
  • Approximately 90 % of our outdoor therapeutic program graduates are attending school and/or working 12 months after completing the program.
  • Our three Private Academies in Tennessee, Florida and Georgia have all been accepted into the prestigious National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs.
“There is about a six percent shortfall between what our state contracts pay us and what it
takes for EYA to operate high-quality programs that give youth the best chance in life,” stated
David Dennis, EYA President & CEO. “That’s why the financial support and flexibility afforded
by unrestricted gifts to the Jack and Ruth Eckerd Children’s Fund are so important.
They enable us to provide our kids with the best possible chance to succeed in life.”

The best part of a gift to the Annual Fund is that even small gifts can have a big impact. When taken together, gifts to the Jack and Ruth Eckerd Children’s Fund, whether $25 or $25,000, comprise one of Eckerd Youth Alternatives’ most significant sources of support. And because Annual Fund gifts are typically unrestricted, they can be directed to areas with the greatest need — and the greatest potential for impact.

Every gift matters. Please make your gift today!
