Every 10 seconds a child is abused in the United States, and more than a dozen children are removed from their homes because it’s unsafe each day in Florida’s Tampa Bay Area. Children entering foster care often have just the clothes on their backs, seldom have a toothbrush, and carry the few belongings they may have a garbage bag. Eckerd serves more than 6,000 Tampa Bay children in the local foster care system, but government dollars often fall short of providing for their emergency, enrichment and transitional needs.
But there’s hope. Eckerd Raising Hope!
Eckerd Raising Hope’s ROOMS OF HOPE are cheerful rooms with store-like appearances where children and teens can “shop for” (pick out) the items they need with pride and dignity. Filled with fresh clothing, PJs, shoes, hygiene items, diapers, school supplies, duffel bags and more, ROOMS OF HOPE are supported solely by private contributions and community volunteerism.
