We are excited to announce that, for the third year, Eckerd will serve as the major sponsor for the 2012 Annual Child Abuse Prevention Conference sponsored by the Pinellas Abuse, Neglect and Dependency (AND) Committee. This year’s theme is “The Power of One” and features keynote speaker Pete Thomas from NBC’s Biggest Loser television show. In 2005, Pete lost the most weight (185 pounds in 9 short months) of any contestant that season. At his highest weight, Pete tipped the scales at over 416 pounds. As a child, Pete never learned about nutrition and exercise due to his transient lifestyle…a result of his mother’s serious mental illness. Often left alone with his younger sister, Pete was forced to find food wherever he could – and both were eventually placed in foster care. Pete’s story is one of survival, perseverance and triumph. The power of one.
