Eckerd Kids’ supervised family visitation service, often referred to as “supported family visitation,” is an important component in child welfare cases in which children have temporarily been removed from the home of their parents or guardians due to abuse or neglect. This service allows a parent to visit with their child in a safe, home-like environment, while the visits are monitored and documented by licensed counselors. Families also receive therapeutic coaching and mentoring on appropriate interactions during these visits. Documentation of visits is provided to the child’s case manager and to the courts to help make decisions related to family reunifications or alternative permanency options.
