Eckerd’s Strengthening Families Program is an evidence-based family skills training program found to significantly reduce problem behaviors, delinquency, and alcohol and drug abuse in children and to improve social competencies and school performance. Services help families with children ages 6-11 who are at high risk of abuse, neglect or abandonment, as well as families struggling with substance abuse. Child maltreatment also decreases as parents strengthen bonds with their children and learn more effective parenting skills.
The 16-week program is delivered in a group setting to enable participating families to learn, encourage and hold one another accountable. Three series of 16-week sessions are provided annually. Families must participate in all sessions to successfully complete and graduate from the program.
