WFLA News Channel 8 interviews Nelson Garica and his son Logan. For the past six years, the pair has been separated when Nelson was arrested and sent to jail. Logan was in a state program handled by Eckerd Youth Alternatives | Pasco & Pinellas while his father was locked away. This Father's Day the two are spending it reunited.
In the Tampa Bay area hundreds of children are without a forever home, many of them teenagers. Foster Mother Kathryn Melendez has 14 children total, six are foster children ranging in age from 14 to 17.
Kids in foster care often spend their holiday without their families or loved ones. But for some a special program called "Home for the Holidays" is paying for kids in the foster care system to fly and see their relatives for the holiday. For Daeshaunae Wooden, a foster child served by Eckerd Communities Alternatives, this means visiting her extended family in Chicago.
More than 400 guests at the eighth annual Eckerd Kid's Jingle Jangle Jam heard an uplifting message from best-selling author and Food Network star Jeff Henderson on Dec. 9 at the Tampa Airport Marriott. In total, the event brought in more than $400,000.
