Improving Academic Skills and Lives
Eckerd operates alternative schools for middle and high school students who have not succeeded in traditional classrooms. Referrals are made through public schools for both short- and long-term placements. Students improve academic skills as well as learn:
Socialization- Decision-making
- Impulse control
- Conflict resolution
Teachers and staff model and reinforce appropriate social, emotional and behavioral responses, and help students strengthen problem-solving and social skills. Educational services include:
- Accredited academics meeting state and national Department of Education guidelines
- Computer-assisted instruction
- Experiential educational activities
The overall goal of our Alternative School service is to return youth at risk to their home schools capable of successfully continuing their education.
